Yoga Therapy in Five Minutes?

Often people say, “Guruji, I only have five minutes.” My answer is always the same: then let us begin with those five minutes.
Yoga is not measured by the length of time we practice, but by the quality of awareness we bring to the moment. If someone comes to us for only five minutes, our task is not to teach them everything about yoga.
Our task as a Yogachikitsaka or Yogacharya is to give them an authentic experience of yoga.
One of the simplest and most powerful ways to do this is through slow, deep, mindful breathing. In just a few minutes, the breath begins to calm the mind, relax the body, and create a sense of inner balance. The individual experiences a shift—from agitation to ease, from tension to tranquility.
Another beautiful tool is a brief Shavasana-based relaxation. Even a short period of conscious rest can bring remarkable changes. The heart rate slows, the blood pressure settles, and the nervous system begins to move from stress toward harmony.

When people experience these benefits directly, yoga ceases to be a theory. It becomes a living reality.
They feel better, think more clearly, and naturally wish to return for more. Five minutes then becomes ten, ten becomes twenty, and a lifelong journey of self-discovery begins.
As facilitators of learning and healing, we must remember that every encounter is an opportunity.
A few mindful breaths, a moment of relaxation, and a compassionate presence may be all that is needed to open the door to transformation.
Never underestimate the power of five minutes of Yoga. Sometimes, a small experience can become the first step towards a healthier, happier, and more harmonious life.
